Beach cities Health District Healthy Living Campus
A conceptual Master Plan proposes to transform the aging Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) former hospital site, located in Redondo Beach, into a Healthy Living Campus, an intergenerational hub of well-being.
A Master Plan in 2019 was first designed as a three-phased campus project that included Assisted Living and Memory Care housing, Community Services, a Child Development Center, Center for Health and Fitness, and a Wellness Pavilion. After community input and further analysis of the 2019 BCHD Master Plan was reconfigured into a two-phased project, now evaluated in the Draft Environmental Impact Report.
The limited area available for a building footprint results in a long, narrow Phase 1 Residential Care Facility for the Elderly facility along the northwest edge of the site, creating a central landscaped open space with views to the east. Phase 2 introduces three site plan scenarios that include a Wellness Pavilion,
Center for Health and Fitness, Aquatics Center, and, in one case, the redevelopment of the medical office building at 510 North Prospect Avenue.
With demolition of the old hospital building, the current Master Plan maintains a shared, landscaped open space as the heart of the Healthy Living Campus.
