Central Avenue Constituent Services Center
Through shared open space and public gardens the center has become a catalyst for social and environmental change on Central Avenue. South Los Angeles has one of the lowest parkland to resident ratios in the city, with less than one half acre per 1000 residents, compared to nearly 60 acres in other areas of Los Angeles. The city hall introduces sustainable development to a community that has few such precedents.
The introduction of a public roof garden dramatically increases secure public open space, doubles zoning requirements for open space, and offers the public a place to relax and enjoy the beautiful native planting. Gardens express storm water mitigation methods and photovoltaic arrays that track the sun offer a dynamic environmental message to the public.
