USGBC-LA has honored the Earvin "Magic" Johnson Park Recreation Area with three honors as part of their 2021 Sustainable Innovation Awards. In addition to Sustainable Innovation Awards in the Water and Equity + Environmental Justice categories, the project was also selected to receive the distinguished Sustainable Innovation Award for Project of the Year.

USGBC-LA's Sustainable Innovation Awards (SIA) are an affirmation of a project‘s commitment to a sustainably built environment. Evaluated on a merit-based system of sustainable strategies that demonstrate exemplary performance, projects demonstrate strategies above and beyond LEED credit achievement, and are recognized in one or more of the program's ten categories.
