Wong Studio & Residence
The Hong Kong-born artist explores primordial themes of the I-Ching through modern painting and compositional techniques. The architecture serves not only as a backdrop to support the artist’s activity but attempts to complement the artist’s personal expression through simple, elemental forms.
The enclosed studio “courtyard,” for a painter in Santa Monica, occurs between long wall planes that organize the rectangular site for living and working. Used for production of paintings, exhibition of artwork, and musical and dance performances, the two-story high studio is evenly filled with diffused, natural light from five skylight rows. The studio features unique solutions to creating and displaying artwork, including a mixing area, indoor/outdoor wash off area, large wall and floor surfaces for painting, mobile tables and sliding panels for art storage and display.
